Dear Friends of Mercy Rescue Trust

Thank you for your ongoing interest and support for the work of the Rescue Centre

in Kitale, Kenya.

2010 has brought MRT to review how it seeks funding to secure the long term work of the Rescue Centre. We look back at 2009 as a successful year in that we were able to find foster homes for three of the children as well as facilitating some intermediate care to a mother and her twins. Also, we employed Grace our nursery school teacher to work with the children on week day mornings. Although we also faced the challenge of moving house which proved in many ways to be a particular drain especially on funds, the children have settled in their new premises which suites their needs far better than at the previous house.

However, looking forward as the children grow, so do our responsibilities in that we are facing the provision for these children long term. With this in mind and wanting to relieve the pressure on fund raising in the UK we are looking towards investing in some self sustainability projects that involve farming. This would not only assist in some self sufficiency in terms of food but could potentially support them with income from this business. Having a recent pilot project successfully completed early indications are that this is a viable option and we are very optimistic in its success.

This is going to take at least six months to implement and subsequently assist in our financial provision. Due to our present situation because the Charities funds are extremely low at this point, the next few months are going to be particularly difficult. If there is the possibility of any short term assistance in funding or even fund raising we would be very grateful for this

additional support.

Yours sincerely,

Sally Allen
